German manufacturer Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions announced it will introduce, in collaboration with Pixevia, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven express store at EuroShop 2023, to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from February 26 to March 2.
The automated express store uses ceiling cameras and smart shelves to track products picked up by customers. The AI-driven store automatically creates a “virtual shopping cart” tracking the items taken from the store shelves, providing retail customers with the convenience of integrated “instant walk-in, walk-out” technology.
Viessmann’s propane (R290)-based cabinets will be integrated into the express store concept at its EuroShop stand, Hall 16/E21.
“Collaboration with Pixevia is an example of co-creation where two companies join forces for the benefit of food retailers,” said Frank Winters, CEO of Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions. “The technology and expertise developed by Pixevia in connection with our refrigerated products bring more added value for our customers and their daily operations.”
“We look forward to EuroShop and having the opportunity to show our technology integrated with Viessmann refrigerated cabinets,” said Mindaugas Eglinskas, CEO of Pixevia. Winters noted that he is looking forward to discussing the AI-driven express store with customers.
“Smaller smart stores just around the corner are a great alternative to large supermarkets in remote locations,” added Eglinskas. “They are a better fit to match the habits of the modern consumer.”
Some of the benefits of the data provided by automated stores include increased store efficiency, in-store optimization and freed-up floor space for additional grocery sales, according to Pixevia. Eglinskas said the express store optimizes retail operating costs and reduces the need for cashiers.
Founded in 2011, Pixevia (whose legal name is Magma Solutions) is a European software provider for fully automated stores. In the last few years, Pixevia has focused on retail automation and launched the first AI-driven, autonomous store in Europe in 2019. The company has offices in Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
Also showcasing automated refrigeration
Viessmann believes automation will play an important role in the future of food retail. As such, it continues to collaborate with technology-leading specialists to provide efficient and sustainable refrigeration solutions. For example, in April 2022, Viessmann announced a partnership with Noyes Technologies to develop an automated refrigeration system for quick commerce that can store different products with varied temperature requirements in confined spaces. Viessmann will also showcase the automated refrigeration system for the first time at EuroShop.
