Japanese manufacturer Panasonic’s European division has announced the 2023 launch of its Aquarea L Series propane (R290) residential air-to-water heat pumps, boasting an improved design and A+++ efficiencies with a Seasonal COP (SCOP) of up to 5.12.

“With reduced noise levels and enhanced comfort and efficiency, the new generation of Aquarea heat pumps offer extensive technological advancements whilst retaining the strengths of the Panasonic Aquarea range,” according to a statement by Panasonic. This series aligns with the company’s Green Impact plan and its vision of a carbon-free society.

The R290 L Series is touted as the perfect solution for renovating a home with radiators, especially where a high water outlet temperature is required. The unitprovides water outlet temperatures of up to 75°C (167°F). Domestic hot water up to 65°C (149°F) can be provided without a heater for tank sterilization.

Operating in low temperatures

Offering a range of capacities, the Aquarea series is reliable even at low temperatures as low as -25°C (-13°F), according to the manufacturer. It can also be selected to match weather conditions and house design. The outdoor heat exchanger has bluefin treatment protection

The new Aquarea L also benefits from a reduced sound level, up to 8dB(A) less than previous models. “This advantage makes the installation more flexible by offering more placement possibilities,” said Panasonic.

Thanks to improved accessibility, practicality and flexibility as indoor and outdoor units, the new heat pump range allows for easy installation and maintenance, said Panasonic, The series also offers “seamless connectivity integration,” with the ability to integrate a WiFi module into the indoor unit. The heat pumps are smart-grid ready for photovoltaic power operation.

The design features a new indoor unit plus a “renewed architecturally sympathetic outdoor unit,” said Panasonic. There is a hydraulic connection between the indoor and outdoor units. The all-in-one model maintains compactness with an encroachment of 598 x 600 mm (23.5 x 23.6 inch), comparable to a household appliance.

The new design ensures increased safety for the use of R290, said Panasonic.
