Nidec Global Appliance, a Japanese provider of components for the residential and commercial appliances industries, and Xiaomi, a major Chinese smartphone and hardware manufacturer, have announced an agreement for the production of Xiaomi residential refrigerators and washing machines using Embraco compressors and Nidec motors provided by Nidec Global Appliance.
These products are aimed at the Chinese consumer market.
“Xiaomi always pursues the best technology in the industry, and this agreement recognizes the leading market position of Nidec and our portfolio of products and brands, such as Embraco compressors for refrigerators, and Nidec motors for washing machines,” said Ricardo Bristotti, Head of the Home Appliances Business Segment at Nidec Global Appliance, in a statement.
The new Xiaomi smart refrigerator 630L Mijia is the first result of this partnership to reach Chinese consumers, beginning in the end of March. It comes with the Embraco variable compressor VES, a model marked by strong refrigeration performance, low noise, first-class energy efficiency, and long service life, the companies said.
The refrigerator’s main features are “all about environmental sustainability,” said the companies, noting that the power consumption is as low as 0.95 kWh/day, and the operating noise is 36 decibels.
In addition, this Embraco compressor uses natural refrigerant R600a (isobutane), which does not harm the ozone layer and has a GWP close to zero.
All of the Embraco brand’s compressor lines provided to Xiaomi are variable speed, which is the most energy efficient technology for refrigeration compressors. The energy savings vary according to the compressor model, but can reach up to 40% compared to traditional “on-off” compressors, the companies said. In addition, the technology presents lower noise levels.
“Xiaomi always pursues the best technology in the industry, and this agreement recognizes the leading market position of Nidec and our portfolio of products and brands, such as Embraco compressors for refrigerators.”
