The installation has inverter-driven compressors and two types of heat recovery.
A French dairy, located in the Clermont-Ferrand region of central France, has chosen three propane (R290) chillers from Italian OEM Euroklimat for a cheese production site.
The dairy produces several famous French cheeses, including Le Bleu de Laqueville.
The R290 refrigeration solution includes two EKO.E/MT B/ST/HR 3483S chillers and one EKO.E/MT B/ST/HR 1642S chiller. The chillers cool a secondary fluid, which is a mixture of water and 30% propylene glycol.
Each of the three units are equipped with inverter-driven semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors. They are also equipped with two types of heat recovery: partial heat recovery and total-modulating heat recovery for each refrigeration circuit. This dual solution enables recovery of the condensing heat that would “otherwise be lost,” Euroklimat says on its website.
Each unit also has microchannel heat exchangers on the condenser side, EC fans, anti-vibration rubber mounts and a stainless steel double-pump hydronic kit.
The two 3483S units have a nominal cooling capacity of 330kW (93.8TR), and each cooling circuit (three in total) has an R290 charge of 15kg (33lbs). The inlet and outlet temperatures of the evaporators are 1°C (33.8°F) and -3°C (26.6°F), respectively, at an ambient air temperature of 35°C (95°F). The 3483S units are equipped with shell-and-tube evaporators.
The 1642S unit has a nominal cooling capacity of 158kW (44.9TR), and a R290 charge of 8kg (17.6lbs) per circuit (two circuits in total). The evaporator inlet temperature is -3°C (26.6°F) and the outlet temperature -7°C (19.4°F), at an ambient air temperature of 35°C (95°F). The 1642S has a brazed-plate evaporator.
The French dairy is not the first cheese producer to choose R290 equipment from Euroklimat. Earlier this year, a Danish cheese manufacturer chose an EKO.E-B/SL/VFD 642 S chiller with a nominal cooling capacity of 110kW (31.3TR) at an ambient temperature of 30°C (86°F).
