The first Egypt Cold Chain Exhibition took place in Cairo and featured 32 exhibitors, 11 education sessions, and over 400 attendees from around the global cold-chain network to look at topics such as choosing the right refrigerant for a system.

The aim of the two-day event was to provide the Egyptian agriculture and cold-chain market the opportunity to network with each other and learn about new cold-chain technologies and operational innovations, according to the event website.

The exhibition was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation together with the Feed the Future Egypt Food Security and Agribusiness Support (FAS) project, funded by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) in cooperation with the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a core partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA).

“Cold chain infrastructure helps to reduce agriculture post-harvest losses and enables the proper handling and storage of perishable products through the development of systems and best practices for the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of food,” said Dominic Graham, FAS Chief of Party. “Developing a modern, integrated cold chain has proven effective for agricultural development for many countries and offers the potential for economic growth in Egypt.”

One of the topics presented was: “Refrigeration systems – What to choose and how.” There are so many things to consider when choosing the most appropriate refrigeration system for a cold store: size, type of refrigerant, expandability, temperature range and so on. This session was designed to give the attendees insight into such factors and a suggest a potential means to determine what is best to make a more profitable business, according to the event program.

The event took place from January 22-23.
