R290 unit consumes up to 30% less energy than traditional compressors.
Embraco's EMC Compressor
Brazilian compressor manufacturer Embraco has introduced its energy-efficient EMC Compressor, which uses propane (R290) refrigerant, into the U.S. market.
Embraco showcased the EMC Compressor at the 2016 AHR Expo in Orlando, Fla. “We are thrilled to now have the product in the market for our customers in the U.S.,” said Michel Moreira, North America CCS sales manager, Embraco.
“The EMC Compressor is one of the most efficient R290 compressors available,” he added. “It will not only help manufacturers meet the upcoming regulations for the U.S. market, it will also help improve energy efficiency and limit the impact on the environment.”
The EMC Compressor, designed for use in beverage coolers, vending machines, under-counter coolers and reach-ins, consumes up to 30% less energy than traditional compressors currently sold in the United States, said Embraco. Additionally, a cabinet using the EMC Compressor met the ENERGY STAR Version 4.0 specification for commercial refrigerators and freezers that will take effect on March 27, 2017. By working with propane, the compressor also allows end users to adapt to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SNAP-program delisting of HFCs in the coming years.
“The EMC Compressor is an example of how Embraco and natural refrigerants are changing the industry to provide sustainable and energy- efficient products.”

The EMC Compressor features a smaller platform, with an extended cooling capacity that can replace larger compressors, releasing more internal space in refrigerators.
“The EMC Compressor is an example of how Embraco and natural refrigerants are changing the industry to provide sustainable and energy efficient products,” said Moreira.
